Thunderbird-AT&T email password glitch: a fix for one problem

BACKGROUND:

A few days ago (04/05/21), my AT&T email account, which I access through Thunderbird 78.9.0 (64-bit), stopped downloading emails. Thunderbird showed a message box with the message

"Sending of password for user ******@att.net did not succeed. Mail server inbound.att.net responded: Server error - Please try again later."

After many tries with no change in 24 hours, I recalled a vaguely similar situation last November on our iMac...

Debian 10 Upgrade on 8-year-old desktop machine is successful but with anomalies

This post is a summary of two anomalous results from upgrading to Debian 10 on my primary desktop computer Pogo2011. The machine was purchased new from Pogo Linux in 2011 with Ubuntu 11.04 pre-installed. It is now set up for dual booting from either Ubuntu or Debian, each OS booting from a separate hard drive and each with its own Grub installation. Prior to the Debian 10 upgrade, the OS was Debian 9.11. At the end of this post is a machine hardware summary.

Email disaster with Opera, Plan B: Thunderbird

After loosing my email history to some failure associated with the Opera email client, I have not yet decided to attempt a recovery using Opera. If it happened once, it will happen again. I prefer Opera as a browser, but I have soured on its email client.

So, as I mentioned previously, I decided to implement Thunderbird as my primary email client. Thunderbird has some official status with Ubuntu in the sense that it is a part of the standard Ubuntu installation and they provide reliable...

Email disaster with Opera

I do my email using Opera. Opera is fast as a browser and it's convenient to open web links from emails in the same application.

A few days ago, I had an email disaster. I had just switched from internet work to email only to find, much to my horror, that all my current and previously stored emails had disappeared. Somewhat surprisingly, Opera's email client continued to work normally in terms of downloading and manipulating new emails. I had not been backing up the .opera directory....
