The XFCE desktop environment is updated to version 4.16. The MATE desktop environment is a 1.24 version . The GNOME desktop environment is also updated to version 40.2. The KDE desktop environment is available in Plasma 5.22.3, Framework 5.84.0 and applications in 21.04.3. Available browsers are: firefox 90.0.1, chromium 91.0.4472.164, epiphany 40.2, etc Many desktop applications have been updated as well like thunderbird 78.11.0, Scribus 1.5.6.1, libreoffice 7.1.4.2, gimp 2.10.24, etc. Core NuTyX ships with Long Term Support (LTS) kernels: 4.9.275, 4.14.239, 4.19.197, 5.4.133 and 5.10.51 and the latest stable version 5.13.3 . ISOs are available in LXDE, XFCE4, GNOME, MATE, KDE5 and BASE (command line interface only without graphical interface). They are available on the download page. What's up ? The installer: ISOs works in UEFI and BIOS modes. In UEFI mode, it's now possible to choose between GRUB, EFIbootmgr or nothing as boot manager. If a swap partition has been formatted for the first time, it will not be formatted again if already done. If the ISO contain a desktop, the number of configuration menus will be reduced to the minimum that are needed. Basically only language, Keyboard, user and hostname are required then. The setup-nutyx script: A new option added that allow to upgrade locales installed by the ISOs medias / install-nutyx script. The install-nutyx script: Building an ISO is now very simple with the new ISO variable. Just specify which ISO you want to build by specifying this variable. The package manager cards: mybld adust automatically contibutors and packager when this one changes. A new option allows to interact with the contruction of a package. flcards is now more stable, freezing are history. It can now installed GNOME desktop from it's icons in the "set of packages" tab. pkgmk reconise two new table variable PKGMK_COLLECTIONS and PKGMK_DEPENDS. They allows installation of dependencies specified in the PKGMK_DEPENDS table. More info in man pkgmk.conf. The collections: In order to simplify the configuration of NuTyX, the desktops collection is now integrated into the gui-extra collection. Means NuTyX does use 5 official collections now. Others: A new bootsplash at boot time makes the grub menu more readable. Many new wallpapers are now included by default. QEMU package got some handy scripts to make use of this software more easy. configvm and startvm are your friends. Upgrade process: Even if NuTyX 21.07.3 is a minor release. A Code:
sudo cards upgrade Once the upgrade process done, the "desktops" collection in the /etc/cards.conf file will be deleted automatically Thanks: Thanks to Spiky for his patience and his generosity in upgrading all thoses many packages. Old news: Old news is available here. |

- It's now a rolling release since version 9.0 actually. - It's own package manager - It's own maintenance tool scripts (install-nutyx, setup-nutyx, upgrade-nutyx, mybld, etc) - No need to compile anything to have a working desktop: a Code:
get kde5 |

I'm really sorry! Why NuTyx now, if it is no any more a directly derivate of LFS? the limitation of NuTyx was ALWAYS don't to can to continue if you have very high needs with - camera using - localisation per satellite - voice recognition - intensive networking etc. (some merkaartor, gramps, etc. are not offered in NuTyx I suppose? Also some very modern browser like vivaldi, brave, iron, chrome or chromium? They open the door to applications like voice speaking for texts, "online skyping", site translation and more) the ability to compile fast and secure as well very easy LSF w a s NuTyx! Why a new packaging application? what is better as in the initially also Swiss production SliTaz where best packager writing in bash plus cocking platform for pizza etc. are offered?!? actual NuTyx propose eye candy's like thousand different desktop environments but it is for nothing: each user need only ONE UNIQUE desktop environment at the time as Linux can't suppose more as one at the time (beautiful Linux using ratpoison in the virtual desktop ONE, KDE in the virtual desktop TWO, JWM in the virtual desktop THREE, and LXDE in the Virtual desktop FORTH!) The very poor Linux is absolutely not ready for that (you can not get one time, all your man pages in the correct choose language, if this language is not English American!)... Sorry, your design in about 2010 was better (abandon the distribution with binaries and concentrate your activity on make build LFS about automatic. I known, I remember that I, I am sorry, I was a defensor of the branch from NuTyx with binaries, but I did NEVER think, you would abandon the branch making LFS automatic, otherwise, I would never have defended the binaries: there are TOO MUCH distributions in binaries already. No need for a NuTyx on top of then without FULL depository like Debian with more than 30000 app's)! It was a big loss than your Pakxe / Sekong did be changed into the way for the actual one with Saravane, an harmful day really. Kind regards Thierry, I hope for you, you did the best and my opinion would be wrong... |

Regarding source vs binary based if NuTyX switched back to be source based I will quit. If you want something like this you could use CRUX Linux or Gentoo Linux. Everything should be well balanced. tnut uses the term "ports" for his software collection then I think he should follow FreeBSD, where the term "ports" begins. Nowadays FreeBSD is the same as Linux being the binary first distribution but they still keep the ability to use the ports collection for advanced users, to build customized packages which use different option than the official packages.
