Looks like PrathamOS is missing in action.

Just had word from SourceForge that they have a new version out, latest everything including kernel, but still using the aging XFCE (GTK2) desktop. Worth a try.

ThePrathamOS 07-16-2018 01:55 AM

Like the word "Aging" :D

I guess...we are running Kernel RC versions & packages SID...The desktop seems to be the stable glue holding things together...Actually, we did try LXQT...but somehow the ergonomics customization that we wanted was fitting in..XFCE more comfortably...

Hmmm. Budgie, maybe? While MATE can hardly be called "lightweight", it is fully updated to GTK3+ and lots of users like it.

I downloaded the full OS yesterday. Then couldn't find a USB jumpdrive big enough to use to install it. Most distros are under 8 Gb, ya know? Especially if you're talking lightweight on the desktop. I'll go download your more minimal version.

Rakesh, your link in the first post says http://prathamos.org. This is a 404 error. Please update it to .com.

zaivala 07-16-2018 09:57 AM

For some reason, all I can find now are .deb packages. Where did the .iso files go? Sad, I don't seem to be able to see what is on the screen, I'll find it somehow. [Updated] Found them.

Agreed...For MATE... we are also considering it...

While "Adyah" remains the flagship,I have to admit, it is too customized now and far from normal linux implementation models.

So we are planning to release base versions in other flavors.
One of them let me disclose it here...
CentOS with MATE...I know it sounds crazy...but the combination will be of great value in office environments...
And we are still undecided how to go about the ARM Edition...

What's wrong with software like Xfce? Why do people want to replace a working system?

zaivala 07-16-2018 10:17 PM

Ok, I installed and tried it. Every one of my apps that i add on, with good .deb packages, reports having some file or library missing. These are apps which run fine in other Debian systems such as Deepin, Ubuntu, LinuxMint. I love that Grub Customizer is included by default. I don't like how busy the taskbar is, and my old eyes are having serious trouble identifying the icons, even using a 32" TV as a monitor. Otherwise, it looks and runs quite well.

@YesItsMe, GTK2 is almost completely out of use except for XFCE. There are many, many desktops, most of them stable and some of them as light as XFCE, and most of which have already upgraded to GTK3+ or are written in Qt.

I tried the latest version of Discord, I tried installing the Mullvad app (I can get Mullvad through other ways of tweaking VPN usage, but the app is so easy and works in variants of Ubuntu 16.04 but not 18.04), and I tried installing my favorite Office package, SoftMaker Office. Each one reported having a dependency not met -- just one, each, with two of them being a library. I may or may not be able to find a way to install those libraries, but I'm really not THAT much a power user.
