LibreOffice Issues
 

I'm a writer and use LibreOffice a lot. I know it's very highly regarded, but with Zorin 15.3 there are some quirks I encounter on a regular basis that are quite irritating.

I often need to keep several .odt files open and minimized so that I can refer to them as I'm working. It's not uncommon to find myself suddenly unable to maximize anything and having to close all tabs in order to do so.

Moving phrases around in a document (which I do a lot) is hit-or-miss. Copy and paste, whether with keyboard shortcuts or right click of the mouse, often takes more than one try. And that happens whether I try to paste formatted or unformatted. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. That really slows me down.

I understand that LibreOffice is based upon OpenOffice, which I used without difficulty before switching to Linux from Windows 7 early this year. Between that program and Word, I guess I got spoiled.

Just opinions:
 

Looks like your operating system's top feature (IMHO+) is to mimic other operating systems like windows?

It's based on Ubuntu which is a based on Debian...

...cutting out the middle men just seems comfortable to me. I also like the newest things to work best which means if "we"'re working on them, they do!

Another issue I've encountered using LibreOffice with Zorin is an occasional reluctance to open minimized documents when their folder tab is open.

I've switched to WPS Writer, hoping that I won't have the same problems.

@kentraco. That LibreOffice is highly esteemed in the Free Software universe has reasons. But I venture that your situation and your mode of work is one which does not fully conform to that of people whose evaluations and reports count. “History is written by the victorious” – or similar. ;)

When you have found a Text-Processor which suites you better or best, PSE come back to name it. There is an other thread going on. It handles Office-suites in general, which is not the same thing, but it can help:

This is a very late response, but it's only recently that I found a viable alternative to LibreOffice.

OpenOffice 4.1.10 functions perfectly with my Zorin OS 15.3. I switched when the spellcheck function in LibreOffice suddenly stopped working. As I mentioned earlier, I'm a freelance writer - so that caused a big problem. I was also dealing with copy and paste issues and LibreOffice's tendency to freeze my computer when I had multiple documents open.

It is hard to explain, why I am so interested in text processors.., while I am not doing any serious work with them (I did, though, in a previous life). But your facts are welcome. ;)

Having worked with OpenOffice 4.1.10 for a while, I remain totally satisfied with my decision to use it as a substitute for LibreOffice.

1. I've had no issues with copy-and-paste.
2. The "SpellCheck" function has been infallible.
3. Multiple documents being open presents no problem.
4. It loads quite a bit faster.
