Fixing the fonts in Oracle Java 8, Debian

Tags fonts, java

That was funny. I had the same problem some time ago, in an earlier install, and then accidentally stumbled in my own answer to the problem, and I didn't even remember that I had solved it before, much less how I did it. That's why I need this blog. :-/

The problem is that when you run a java app with the exported parameters to use the GTK look and feel, it runs reasonably OK (perhaps not 100% identical, I didn't compare if carefuly, but at least it's way more homogeneous than the...

new mc2 - creates makefiles from a source tree

Posted 12-07-2012 at 11:17 PM by rainbowsally

Fixed a bug in mc2 noticed here.
Where It Crashed: http://rainbowsally.org/rainbowsally....4.1-rs.tar.xz

The large number of files listed in the mc2.def was overloading the parser so Parser (and the string list file and pipe reader) got a heftier buffer.

The file above is a java application. Not a great one but it shows one way mc2 can even generate makefiles for java applications using EXT_ALL as a target and some other tricks.

A long time ago I stopped using Java programs because of the proprietary aspect. But I recently tried out Iced Tea on my Gentoo box and it seems to work pretty well, at least with one program, Planet M.U.L.E:

http://www.planetmule.com/

Planet M.U.L.E. is a free clone of a old economics video game, but with much better graphics. It is rather addicting, but somewhat frustrating if you don't take the time to read the how-to-play guide, which explains in detail all the...

Leap second and Java woes

Posted 07-27-2012 at 12:25 PM by sag47
Updated 07-27-2012 at 12:27 PM by sag47

This is kind of an old event however I thought I'd talk about it for both myself in the future and for anyone looking for an answer when it happens again. There is a bug in java or the kernel in which leap seconds cause some really nasty behavior. For instance, All app servers which include Jetty, Tomcat, and JBoss were pegged at 100% CPU usage and ridiculously high load averages. I don't know if this affects weblogic because if I recall they ship their own custom build of java which may or may...
