Audigy: cant find module

I'm having a little problem with the sound in dsl. I've tried booting with knoppix alsa, and that doesnt work. I then put the emu10k1 driver onto a floppy disk, and boot into expert mode. It recognizes my disk, says it finds the driver, but during the boot-up it still says: cannot locate audigy module(the same error message from the start). What am I doing wrong, and what can I do to fix xthis problem. Thanks.

I have an Audigy ES which is working fine in Slackware. I installed the ALSA drivers available from ->

using the instructions from this page ->

All you need are the first three files on the main page - driver, library, and utilities. I think every one of those Creative Labs cards uses the same emu10k1 driver, so you should be okay. Follow those instructions verbose and you'll be fine. Before you start, make sure to do, as root, modinfo soundcore as it says. If you don't get a module listed there, then you'll need to recompile your kernel.

Thanks, but is there any possible way to get the sound to work with the live cd? Or is it impossible with the audigy?

Didn't realize you were wanting sound from a Live CD - I thought you were trying to use them to get your sound card detected. I tried both the Knoppix and Slackware Live CD's, and neither one gave me sound with either an onboard Intel 810 chipset, or with the Audigy ES card. I know there is more documentation on the Knoppix CD, and web site, that may give you a clue - like in the FAQ area. And Knoppix has a pretty good forum. The Audigy does work with the emu10k1 driver, so be looking for that. Have you looked on the actual CD's to see what packages are on there? This might give you a clue to what could and could not be supported.

It detects the sound card fine. The emu10k1 sound modules are on the cd too, it just cant seem to load it. Modprobe fails, insmod fails, and anything else I've tried doesn't work. Some of the people on knoppix's message board said that audigy isn't supported in knoppix, while others say that it works if you just type knoppix alsa at the boot prompt (which doesn't work for me). Maybe it just doesn't work?
