Why only 2 Virtual Terminals? Just one more would do so much.

When I used DSL the other day I ended up accidentally switching out of my Virtual Terminal that had X running in it. When I got back I had a black screen. I tried to switch to another virtual terminal (now that I have discovered just how cool they are!!) to kill X or something I couldn't (byound the first which was unuseable b/c X was started off of it. It has since occurred to me that I could have just used Ctl-Alt-Backspace and have killed X rather than having to restart as if it was a Windoze box! I am wondering if there is some stunning technical reason for not having just one more terminal thru which to access bash? Or was it a design decision or would take up too much space?
Instead of bothering the designers about this should I just start X in the background?:

startx &

would that free up my first VT for other things?

I'll respond to my own post simply to let others know that, yes, using
Code:
 startx &
does work. Although you have to exit fluxbox which will get you to the first VT's bash prompt from which you can start X again and maintain the bash prompt. Maybe I'm the only one interested, but thought I'd let people know what I've found out.
