freshrpm nvidia driver and dkms

Obviously one needs to have the freshrpm repo available

Assuming that you do not have it enabled

Code:
# yum install --enablerepo freshrpms dkms nvidia-x11-drv [nvidia-x11-drv-32bit]
The one in brackets installed if you are running a 64-bit install. The brackets to be removed obviously.

The great thing about it is that there is no need to wait for livna to update the kmod driver. After each kernel update, it recompiles on first boot and then it's business as usual afterwards.

Just thought people should be aware of choices out there.

Yes it works great. Been doing mine this way for over a year. Beats recompiling all the needed modules with a new kernel. Let it do the job itself like it should be. Only have to restart networking because DKMS runs after networking is started.

I am running F8 64bit without the [] 32 bit files. I am not seeing any issues. Why would you need them?

Hi lazlow:

You don't need them, except if you run any 32-bit apps on x86_64 (like games, FireFox, whatever other 32-bit apps you may have installed), then you do need them, or those 32-bit apps won't run correctly on x86_64, at least not the games and stuff that need the accelerated graphics features.
