sound inoperative fedora core 2

I installed fedora Core 2 and everything went well except I cant get the sounds to work.I have enabled sound files, but they wont even let me sample the sounds and Cds have no sound but if I import a track i can play it and I do get a sign off wav file when I log off.-All volume controls are turned up all the way and nothing is muted. I even tried a differant sound card- no differant and with either sound card it is detected and passes the sound test--any Ideas ??

hi,

are you using kde? per default, kde uses artsd...
try to kill artsd (for example using killall artsd) and try to play a wav file with command

play wavfile.wav

let me know if it works... 'cause i had the same problem. now i'm not using artsd with my kde under fc2.

I did a upgrade install of fedora Core 3 over core 2 and the sound is working
