Does Anyone Else Have These Converting To Linux Symptoms

I keep moving the windows of programs about hoping they'll smoothly wobble like the desktop effect I have enabled on Fedora Core 6 and try to see through the windows to the background, but nothing happens, it's just square plain windows..in windows. I sit there thinking it'll load now and a few minutes later it finally does because I'm used to Fedora loading up practically straight away, i've only been using it for a few days but am not used to windows anymore. Windows wouldn't delete a video file so i opened command prompt and found it really hard just relocating myself to the desktop folder and then deleting the file using .* which deleted 2 files..1 correct and 1 not. Fedora Core 6 is.. I'd say just as easy to learn from scratch as windows is..or easier.

I feel almost dirty.. the computers lagg so much and they have top of the range processors. Does anyone else have these symptoms when leaving Windows.. also I feel violated to even say the word "windows" without saying something like "is crap" after it.. Is this normal.

This isn't a joke.. I'm serious.. Is this normal.. normal to love something I'm only getting to know.. with no regrets about leaving the old lagged up thing.

yes...
wait until you get used to the package management system most linux distros provide. installing software (on fedora, in this case) is as easy as:

yum install whatever_it_is_you_want_to_install

you will wonder how you ever lived without it.

you cant run linux without an internet connectivity ... in a sense linux may still be a non-functional os for a lot of people ...

but on the other side , if you try running linux without any internet connectivity at all for a long perioid , you may appreciate linux more than how you see it now ...

may stop having these kind of "symtoms" ...

I thought that I posted in the General section anyway.. but nevermind. I'm not bothered about the Internet part because I have 10MB Cable Broadband connection, which is running smoothly with Fedora. I've done quite a lot of things using yum and it's over simple.

You can run it without an internet connection, just be prepared to have supplemental CDs on hand to take software from.

That depends a lot on the distro, and its dev team's choice of packages.

Ubuntu seems to be very net-dependant.
I like VectorLinux though, everything i need is there, out of the box.

Fedora needs a connection as well, at least for the initial first-time-setting-things-up anyway.

Huh? Since when is an internet connection a requirement for running any Linux distro?

Fedora likes an internet connection.. but so do I, I don't see a big problem, it isn't really made to just be there and never change, update or be interactive with the internet unlike some other distros and so it's purpose is fulfilled.

it may or may not be a terrible single point of failure ...

probably is the easiest and fastest path(probably costless ??) rendering important(hopefully not the only and the most important) tools ineffective and useless ...

Of course it doesn't need a connection to finish the installation!
But how would you go about de-crippling fedora's multimedia system and install hardware drivers (ati and nvidia for example) with no internet connection?

Maybe you could visit an internet café, nd grab the RPMs one by one from PBONE, but thas kind of daft, isnt it?

Like I said, it likes an Internet connection to do things..to change..eveolve (get new programs). The programs installed are it's capabilities and so it is as capable as you make it. It is a lot more capable with an Internet connection than without, but it's the RPM's people want, not really a connection. Fedora is a project built to be more than a simple OS, it is made to be popular and to spread to new people and it is now the worlds fastest growing operating system. A lot above any windows. To talk about how incapable it is without the internet isn't really neccessary as the people without would use something else or find other ways..and most people have a internet connection, and a fast one at that.
