links2 for slow internet users

I am trying to get links2 with gui in Linspire that has all the java support and all the support I need to do things on the web. I do not think that Linspire has the things I need to compile and make and install from source. The reason I was links2 with gui is because it is fast and I have dial up, and right now, Linspire's web browser is being slower than waiting for Christmas. It's for my girlfriend's computer and she will not use Linux over Windows if the browser is being too slow compared to Windows. I uncommented the two deb repositories and ran apt-get update on her computer. I installed Synaptic. She does not have links2 in Synaptic. How can she get the links2 and the one with the gui? Thanks.

Linspire's web browser? Is it Konqueror? Weird. Try Firefox before going anywhere else. Oh... and... links2 is a pure text browser as far as I know (and no java).

Linspire uses the "old" Mozilla Suite (renamed to Linspire Internet Suite or LIS) as it's default browser.
For faster browsing you can try Firefox or Opera.
AFAIK links and lynx are text-only (console) browsers (I don't know links2 or what it does more/better then links).

You can get Opera here. Very fast.

I did not ask for Opera, and I did not ask for firefox. Firefox takes three light years to load. I asked the wrong crowd.

From http://linuxreviews.org/software/browsers/#toc6
"Supports javascript"

From http://links.twibright.com/features.php
"Links is a graphics and text mode web browser, released under GPL. Links is a free software"

Relax texas boy... its a wonder youve lasted so long with that kind of answers.
Yes, links does support javascript but it can be buggy as hell when it comes to true usefulness, simple things itll handle'em easy but when stuff gets complicated... well, links + javascript is not good.

Oh and the answer you are looking for is...
Code:
links -g
. "i asked the wrong crowd..."

Next time read the man, itll save you and us a lot of problems.

You asked for links2 with gui and javascript and we pointed you to that. You asked for speed over dialup and we gave you an alternative that would help. And you did ask the "wrong crowd" because I won't waste any more of my time reading your posts.

No, one person pointed it out. If you took the time to read (omgz a whole 7 post thread) or had any capacity to retain what you have read instead of replying with a knee-jerk response because you were offended for being called out, you would see that it went like this:

[All questions in my comments are rhetorical]

I want links2. Because it's fast and I'm on dial-up. Linspire's web browser is too slow. How can I get links2 with the gui? Thanks.
(Pretty straight-forward.)

Try Firefox before going anywhere else.
(Not what he asked for. In fact, he knows he doesn't want it and said so. Why try to steer him away?)

Linspire uses the "old" Mozilla Suite. For faster browsing you can try Firefox or Opera.
(Same thing again. Also, Mozilla Firefox? Hello??)

http://links.twibright.com/ This version has java support.
(Finally, he gets a useful answer.)

Next time read the man, itll save you and us a lot of problems.
(The poster clearly stated he was compiling links from source. "I need to compile and make and install from source." )

I won't waste any more of my time reading your posts.
(And now the backup post to reinforce the attempt at turning it back on the poster.)

This is one of the many reasons that people in general and new users/admins in particular shy away from and have difficulties adopting linux.
