"Okay, so you're 'stuck?'" So what? Sounds like you might be
learning!
Here's the deal: "David-I" of Borland fame once referred to this as
"taking a sip from a firehose." That's what it feels like. That's
always what it feels like. And... that's what it's supposed to feel like, until it doesn't feel like that anymore.
If you ask someone
else to answer your questions for you, you're not learning. You're only asking questions of other people who have learned. And, if that does not suit you, then perhaps you should (seriously!) consider another line of work. Not everyone is good at this sort of thing. Not everyone, who initially thought that they'd love doing it, actually wants to do it at all.
(I'm basically one of those people!) "I Don't Do Hardware." I do
software. I specify how the hardware configuration is to be set up, and it's your contractual obligation to provide it and to maintain it so that my software installation can run properly. Furthermore,
you install my software to my specifications, including reinstalling it if you're a dumb-muffin who lets your server get hacked. The software will do exactly what it was contractually specified to do, when run in the also contractually-specified environment. But, I don't attempt to simultaneously deal with both sides of the equation. I specialize in one side, and rely on others who specialize on the opposite side.
