I would like to get certified in Red Hat system administration. I am going to pay for this out of pocket. I was wondering if there are any companies out there, besides red hat, offering training. I know the training thru red hat is $2000-$3000. I was looking for something a little less.
We used Unitek for a couple of our employees. There were two classes, both five days, and then the exam. The classes were $2500 each. The biggest problem was getting them scheduled reasonably close together in our geographic location. I only add all of this to say that the training did seem to be comprehensive and well taught, as both people walked away with RHCSA certifications.
If you are familiar with Linux, I think you could probably skip the first class, based on the information they conveyed to me... Sometimes, cheaper training is more expensive, especially if you aren't given the tools (knowledge) you need to pass the exam.
"Yes, you need to spend $10,000.00 out of your own pocket, in order to show the world that you really do deserve to get a job administering this particular vendor's version of Linux." Yes, you do!!
Sit back and enjoy the fruits of your "investment." There's just one job out there, and 1,001 people applied for it, and all of them lacked A Certification™ ... all of them, yes, except: y-o-u. One thousand rejection letters were mailed, followed by o-n-e that was fortuitously mailed to your address. "Really, $175,000.00 seemed like much too little to pay ..."
Now that you've mastered that line, I'd like to move on to discuss a choice piece of waterfront property in Arizona, USA. To take advantage of this one-of-a-kind opportunity, you need to be prepared to spend $25,000, again out of your own pocket. (But, hey, "to the victors go the spoils." While you are enjoying those "Arizona ocean breezes," they will be cluelessly insisting that Arizona doesn't even touch the Pacific Ocean ...)
