I have strange issue with Plasma v. 5.20.5 on Debian v. 11. It's not urgent and I found a workaround, but it piqued my curiosity and I was hoping someone could shed some light on it. I tried a new theme and some of my icons dissappeared from the menu. (Note: I do not use desktop icons; this is strictly about menu icons.)
I was playing around with themes and installed a "global theme" named Qogir-dark. Once I did, I found myself unable to open system settings. I got the following error:
Code:
:~$ systemsettings5
Icon theme "Qogir-dark" not found.
Yet, when I ran a locate command, I got loads of results referring to icons:
Code:
/home/[username]/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/Qogir-dark/icons
/home/[username]/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/Qogir-dark/icons/akonadi.svg
/home/[username]/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/Qogir-dark/icons/akregator.svg
/home/[username]/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/Qogir-dark/icons/amarok.svg
/home/[username]/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/Qogir-dark/icons/applications.svg
/home/[username]/.local/share/plasma/desktoptheme/Qogir-dark/icons/apport.svg
(snip additional lines of similar output)
I rebooted and was able to open system settings from the menu and quick like a bunny, I changed to a different theme. Now, several icons don't show in my Favorites menu (I neglected to check the regular menu), in particular the icons for System Settings, Dolphin, and Konsole. The rest of the icons still seem to be present, and the menu selections function normally. I've tried different icon themes and window themes, but haven't been able to retrieve the missing icons.
In case it's relevant, when I look in System Settings-->Appearance-->Icons, I see the following: Adwaita, Breeze Light and Dark, and High Contrast.
