Locating Documentation Help Needs

Here's my question - and I know it's a long shot. I want to contribute to free software, but to be honest, although I write C/C++, it sucks. I'm not very good and I still have trouble just decoding the source from apps I download. Add to this my virtually complete ignorance of the usage of tools like make and patch (beyond simply applying patches and compiling with make), and it looks like I need to do a good bit more learning before I'll be of any use as a developer.

I would however love to contribute documentation. I am a native English speaker who knows enough Spanish to (slowly) translate documentation. But where do I find it? Is there any place to go to figure out what free software programs are in need of documentors or translators? I can find such a page for specifically GNU software at http://savannah.gnu.org/people/?category_id=8 .

Is there any such general page for a larger group of free software projects? If there isn't do developers/maintainers wish there was one?

One place to start is the Linux Documentation Project (tldp.org)

Also, look at the home page for specific projects (many of these are on Sourceforge) to see what help they are looking for.
