Ummm, I think I might be the idiot.

I live in Brooklyn. I need as much "real estate" as possible.

Why don't people just use what they want? Who gives a rats a** what someone else uses? If you like what you use, then screw what others think! Come on, I mean really!!! You don't call someone an idiot because they don't use their system the way you would. Give it a rest...Maybe tricky should close this off? People get too upitty anyhow...

yeah, maybe i should move it to acid's forum.. and let him take care of it.. i know none of you would want that.

yeah, second chance though, if it continues, i will close this thread.

i couldn't agree more... all i asked was why the kde/gnome users preferred that particular WM, that's all. i don't think i said anything offensive, or at least anything to deserve being called an idiot.

and taz is right, you shouldn't call someone an idiot for how they use (or abuse....?) their system the way they do.

Yes, it is a matter of choice, at another forum http://www.linuxjunior.org guys almost beat the poop out of each other over KDE XP theme, so let's not get personal and be friends, I started up with KDE and GNOME, then moved to Afterstep but on top of gnome (very annoying though), then I made a move and reconfigured Afterstep, so it is pure now (but it has some issues - logs me out if I try to undock an app from another desktop), now I am an enlightenment boy, it is very nice and fast. I tried black box and WM, and I'll tell you they are great on limited recources systems, and I don't have any issues with RAM and processor power. Check out different screenshots at http://utopia.poly.edu/~bartem01/images
(snapshot2.png is the latest one with enlightenment as window manager)

i beg to differ, i think his post was dripping with condescension (sp) and elitism.

Im sick of people who think they are more hardcore because they use a more minimalist wm/desktop. get over it already.

I think ive said it before, but i like to think am pretty damn good at configuring and maintaining linux, with experience with a lot of distros and software combinations. i see it like this, when youre a little teeny and you learn to drive and think youre all hot shit, you probably learnt a manual car to impress your friends with how hardcore you are (minimalist wm..eg fvwm), ive learnt all that crap, can configure almost any distro from config files.

If you drove to work in the city traffic everyday, pretty soon you too would migrate to an auto (kde/gnome). did i make my analogy simple enough for you?

Quit the elitism, it comes down to personal preference. i only use linux on all my computers, so im using them all day, and i like the eyecandy and functionality of kde/gnome. it makes using computers for long periods of time both easier and more enjoyable.

Use twm, blackbox wm etc if you like, but dont think you are better than me or know more about linux because of your window manager, that really annoys me....thats prob why i over reacted. sorry.

Besides, chances are id clean the floor with you any day

Have to agree with sickboy on this one... FB/BB for learning, and Gnome for enjoyment.

Look who's talking about condescending, elitist posts! Look in the mirror before you go spouting off. I'll put up with a little hassle for a stick over an automatic anyday. It's got more power, better gas mileage and is simply more fun... Use your opinion driven analogies for yourself, not everyone has your view. I'll use what I use, you use what you use, and call it good already.
I appologize for keeping this silliness going, but I also get very offended when narrow-minded people make blanket statements from atop their high-horse looking down their nose at the rest of us unworthies.
Tricky: Sorry, i'll copy this to acid's screaming thread... =)

Ok,

I am reopening this thread as its a nice long thread that shouldn't be closed.

If anyone starts responding about who is better or bickering why who uses what, calling persons names or whatever, its going to be closed for good.

Enjoy posting your screenshots again.
