While booting no option is shown for Linux! Only windows xp is shown!!

I installed Turbolinux on my PC, over Windows XP. I wanted to use both of them. There were already 3 partitions:
1. c: for windows NTFS
2. D: I used it to install linux EXT2
3. E: Just for some programs FAT32

Now, i installed Linux in d:. But when I rebooted, Win xp started by default, OS boot menu was not at all shown.

When I checked XP . it did not show d: drive which now bacame ext2 , it only showed c: and f: that were NTFS and FAT32 respectively. I don't was to reinstall because it is already there. Just tell me to how to run Turbolinux. Please!

Did you install a bootloader (lilo or grub)? You need to have a bootloader to boot which operating system you select

I am new to linux.
What is a boot loader? If lilo or grub, whatever it is, can help me, where can I find it?
You need to be really patient while answering! I mean I ask such stupid questions anyone can go impatient.

When you ran the Linux installer, it should have prompted you as to where to install the bootloader. Teh typical choices are mbr of drive 1, bootsector of the Linux partition, and sometimes floppy. mbr of drive 1 is what you want.
You might be able to get going with one of the many live CDs, or something like the Ultimate boot CD.

The EASIEST way out of this is to simply repeat the Linux install process--watch for the bootloader options.

I know you already have all critical data backed up, so I will not mention that.......

PS: Drives C, D, etc have meaning only in Windows. Linux goes by /dev/hda (1st IDE drive), /dev/hda1 (1st PARTITION on the 1st IDE drive).

Note that what Windows call a D "drive", might just be the 2nd partition on drive 1. Thus, you might have the following equivalents:
C = /dev/hda1
D = /dev/hda2

Oh, sorry, so I am having linux in /dev/hda2 .

Back to my problem, can I do like this

My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Startup and Recovery Options>Startup options:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

Can i add a new line refering /dev/hda2/ for boot up, If so, how?? what should I type?

see above post also!

Also, can I contact you further for my doubts, I mean just as a good student, who knows someday we make our own unique linux distro?

I am first year student of BE in Computer Science. So I shall learn more andmore, it's quite exciting. I have just passed high school.
