Annoying mouse problem

I've recently installed Slackware 8.1 (2.4.18), and now I regularly experience the following weird and annoying problem (in FluxBox): my standard PS/2 mouse ('Safeway' 2buttons+scrollwheel) works fine, but after an unspecified period of time, my visible mouse pointer suddenly doesn't correspond to the actual clicking location on screen.

Basically, the visible mouse pointer is like half an inch/a cm to the right of the actual mouse position.

I haven't been able to find any logic in my actions/programs running and the problem.

Any ideas?

I have the exact same problem in Slack81. Annoying, isn't it? I had chalked it up to the fact that I was using a USB optical mouse. I can pretty much make it happen if I run xmms, although mozilla has also knocked it out a couple of times. I have tried unloading/reloading all USB modules, unplugging/inserting the USB connector for the mouse, restarting X and all combinations of the above and still the only way to 'fix' it is to reboot.

I was going to try the latest XFree patches from slack, but figured I'd just wait for 9.0

Anybody have any insight to this?

The only hardware I run slack/xfree on is a Via MicroATX board so I don't know if it's hardware specific.

Heh... Try Option "SWCursor" "True" in your XF86config file in the section "Device". I pulled this one from a Debian mail list... http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/200.../msg00282.html

I'm gonna try it for a while and If I don't post back here then it's a good bet it worked.
