Scanning from the scanner button via wifi does not work. It only works when connected via USB. IMO that's not really a problem, though, because when you scan from the button you have no control over anything. The scan goes to ~/brscan as a .pnm file, with no way to change the file type, destination, resolution, or anything else. With xsane you have complete control over everything. You can even control much of it by scanning to the web. But I've found no way to change anything when scanning to file from the scanner, so I don't really care that I can't do that. I also don't want to run a long USB cable to the scanner. So my advice is to not fret over not being able to push one button for a scan.

Works for me with a wired network connection. (I do not bother with wifi)

On my setup, that runs the /opt/brother/scanner/brscan-skey/script/scantofile-0.2.4-0.sh script. You could edit that script to change defaults.
