I suspect your new toner cartridge isn't properly seated. I also have a HL-1110 printer. The error light on these printers blinks in different ways for different kinds of error condition and there is a list of the codes in the user manual. If you look at the light and time the flashes, you can compare the pattern with those on p.39 to find out what is going wrong.

Also, was the toner from Brother or a third party.

Thank you.

Do you still have the old cartridge? If so, put it back in and try a test print.
Quick Google search gives:
Quote:
How do I print a Test page?

Turn off the printer.
Make sure that the front cover is closed and the power cord is plugged in.
Hold down the Go button as you turn on the power switch. Keep the Go button pressed down until the Toner, Drum and Error LEDs light up. ...
Press the Go button again.
Does it print? Quality may be crap but it's the operation you're testing.

Old cartridge is in the trash? You need to find another cartridge. Refilled cartridges only have the toner replaced in most cases, the PC (PhotoConductive) drum isn't usually replaced so any scratches, fingerprints, marks, etc, will appear on your prints.

By the way... You shouldn't touch the drum for another reason, the selenium coating is carcinogenic!

There can also be a chip which monitors the toner level and possibly other stuff, it doesn't get changed or reset either. So just because the last 3rd party cart worked doesn't mean that your "new" 3rd party cart will work.

This info was correct when I retired back in 2015, technology may have moved on, but realise that printer manufacturers would rather that you bought their toner, so chipping the carts probably still happens.

Play Bonny!

geordiejohn1950,

Just as an aside, Stinkyink's compatible toner cartridges are guaranteed to work:
https://www.stinkyinkshop.co.uk/brot...brother-hl1110

I have used their cartridges on various printers without any problems.

Stinkyink is based in Bridgnorth.
