Does S3 Savage 4 not support 1024x768 under CentOS?

It seems to work under Red hat 9.

Any idea or am I doing something wrong? I am totally new to Linux. Under desktop/display, only 800x600 and 640x480 are available. :-(

Do you have a working Redhat 9 installed on the system. If so compare the /etc/X11/xorg.conf. I think it is called something else in that old of distro maybe xconfig.conf or something. its been many years since using Redhat 9. Sounds like to me the monitor section is not configured correctly to allow the card settings to display that high of resolution.

Post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to see how things are defined
Also post hardware specs of video card and monitor.

Brian

Looks a bit lacking of detail. Check out mine for monitor and card settings and see about writing something similiar matching hardware. Note make a backup copy of your xorg.conf to restore if something edit wise goes wrong so you can get X back if it fails.

Code:
# Xorg configuration created by system-config-display

Section "ServerLayout"
	Identifier "single head configuration"
	Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0
	InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"

EndSection
