Multiple "device not ready" messages in System Log

Hi guys,

I'm new to this forum , and a relative noob in Linux.

I was looking the other day at my system log, and found a lot of messages like this:

kernel: Device not ready. Make sure there is a disk in the drive
kernel: Last message repeated xx times
kerne: Last message ...
....

when xx is around 30, and the message appears every second.

The reason for this is my SCSI CD-R (yamaha 8424). When i insert a disk in the drive the messages cease.

Is this normal behaviour? ( i think not, since i have an IDE CD drive in the computer, and no meesages like this from it)
Can something be done so to stop the system from checking if there's a CD in the drive 30 times a sec?
