system shut down issue

Good afternoon everyone.

I have RH WS3 in my Dell 400SC system and I am encounter a problem is that when I shut down the computer the screen will show "power off" which means linux OS is gone, however, my computer (dell 400sc) is still running. I don't know that still means the whole system is shut down completely, but can anyone tell me if that's normal or tell me how to shut down my system (os and the computer) completely, because I am really lazy I don't like to press the power button to shut down the computer. =)

Thank you and happy Friday.

Well, if you are too lazy to press the power button, you are probably too lazy to upgrade to the latest Fedora Core release with proper advanced power management support,... Or any other distro that supports either APM or ACPI,...

But that is your solution, to upgrade your environment to a more recent kernel that includes APM or ACPI support and to enable that functionality.

Consider yourself lucky,... when I was using Mandrake 8.2, I had to push both the power button as well as the reset button to get my machine to power down.

As an added note....

This will be fixed in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, which has mucho-improved acpi support.
