"Tiny" file system (busybox only)

Hello,

I created a root.ext2 contains only busybox, inittab, and few devices (e.g console).
The image was monunted with "mount" to a shared folder.
The kernel boots, looks for the shared folder over NFS and boots normally. I got a prompt.

Now I want to move to the production phase.
Is it possible (and wise) to link "root.ext2" with the linux kernel and create one image called zImage.elf ?

We consider to burn the initrd image on flash (MTD, not block device)
Is it possible to tell linux to search initrd on this flash ? How ?
Linux will need a device driver to memory map the flash.
I guess we should write an application to do it.

Should initrd image contain busybox or just few devices and configuration files like inittab ?

Can we link this startup application with the linux kernel ?

Thanks,
Zvika Vered
