camera record button
i have a galaxy fold3. is there any type of record gesture where i tap on the fones blank screen and automatically start recording.
at present pressing the power button twice opens the camera app where i would have to swipe down from still-picture to get to the camcorder function then tap on the red button (thus missing half of the meme-able moment).

No, I don't believe there is. Recording video has to be started, You can probably speed up your 'start record' process. Try that.
