yes, its quite easy
once you have your networking setup properly you can do what ever you want on a guest os

we use vmware at the office so we can support users, we have it setup to use the network, and a modem

make sure you have installed the vmware tools to get windows to talk to the virtual network interface properly

can you access a tcp/ip enabled box? for example can you request a web page from your host linux box? ( this is just to make sure that your virtual host is using the network properly )

I got it to talk to the Novell network via a cable. Works great. But now I am trying to get it work with the Wireless Card. What I mean is the Wireless card works but it can see the Novell Server. I can only see that with a cable in the on board Nic.

I have to do right now is have the wireless card in for Linux and also have a cable pluged in so I can see the Novell Server. I would like go all wireless for both OS's running and be able to log in to Novell.

you'll have to check on your wireless access point

some where on the administration page or configuration program or however you configure your access point
you need to tell the accesspoint to allow ipx/spx packets through over the wireless

this is probably what the problem is more or less

have a play and see what you can come up with

There is no way to do that in my AP. I will have play with it. I think the problem is that for Wireless to work in VMware you have to set it to NAT. Novell will not work that way. To get Novell I have to bridge the NIC.

i am not entirly sure how vmware works when it comes to the network card stuff, i know what the terms are, nat etc

but i think the bridging works by the vmware driver talking to the windows kernel, or network card drivers directly. so in therory any network connection method should work.

infact, the machine we use for customer support ( the one with vmware on ) has some crappy net work card in that linux has had trouble with in the past ( i know its hard to beleive ), but if i run linux as a guest on a windows system, as far as linux is concerned it is talking to a vmware virtual network adapter, and it works first time.

my point be-ing that it does not seem to matter what mode the virtual network card is in vmware just deals with it.

but sure by all means have a play around and please tell me your findings, it would be useful to know

thanks

btw, can you ping tcp/ip stuff over the wireless in different network card modes?

From what I read on VMware's Site you can not do what I am trying to do. Link Below.

That Sucks...

we have a wireless kit on it way ( just 4/5 days away from us now )

when it arrives i will have a play with it and see what i can come up with

edit:

btw that was for GSX server not for the client
keep playing with the client
