/var/www/html is where all my stuff is and it's set to that directory in Apache. as root i did 'chown shawn /var/www/html' and the explorer thing in KDE said that shawn was the user....so as shawn (AND root) i did 'chmod 755 /var/www/html' and it didn't work so i also tried 'chmod 777 /var/www/html' and that didn't work either. why doesn't this damn thing work?
What kind of error messages do you see in /var/log?? You made the directory accessible to everyone but did you also make the files in the directory accesible to everyone. Use chmod -R to run through a directory recursively. But in any case all the information of what's going wrong is in the log files.
Ofcourse that is assuming you've gone through the whole process of making sure the http daemon is actually running.
it came up for me...also i like how you put C:\CON\CON...kinda funny in a pathetic sorta way...even better would to put a pic that says "ENTER" they will click it and you will crash all the Windows PC's!! Go you!!

ok well that worked but why can't i use the cgi-bin? it keeps saying Internal Server Error.......check it out: server error
the first line of the file is #!/usr/bin/perl
i checked that out and there really is a perl in /usr/bin so why isn't it working? the folder is set correctly in httpd.conf and i CAN use the printenv file that is always in the cgi-bin by default.....

actually, just by viewing my first page it crashes all Win95/98/ME computers. i actualy test that at my friend's (he has Win98SE), as soon as the page loads it crashes his computer without even clicking on anything.
it's a YaBB forum, i really like this board because of the neat smileys, because i've gotten it to work on Windows and because i have a ton of saved posts and threads on my Windows machine....i would hate to just delete all records of ever having a forum.
did you install the patches on your Win98 machine? if so then that's why.... most people don't bother.
