normally the CD have the rpm inside, try to find there.. if not then find at the web, here is one link.

http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...&system=&arch=

then jsut rpm -Uvh telnet-server to install it. and make sure ur xinetd under the telnet line the "#" is remove, then restart inetd or restart PC .

it hsould be ok then .

David, the 'chkconfig telnet on' resolved the problem. Will this survive a reboot however?

Thanks

cannot make telnet work redhat 8.0

I have tried everything listed here. I have installed telnet and created a telnet file with the disable=no. I have installed the rpm for telnet and everytime I try to see if its listening or try to start it, I get nothing back. It tells me connection refused on port 23 when I try to connect to the machine. Im a linux newbie but have been a professional tech now for 10 years. Man this is frustrating. If a issue a netstat -a | grep telnet, I get nothing back, so I know its not listening. I have the firewall configured to be off. I have also tried turning off the firewall by stopping the iptables and the ipchains. Seems to me that the poster of the original thread is having the very same problem. This is a new server with a new install, and frankly this is my first serious attempt at getting some linux servers up on my win2000 domain. Ive got FTP to work without any real problems. I dont want to have to use SSH exclusively because telnet is built in on my windows workstations. Thanks for any help.

Similar problem

Hello, I am having a similar problem...

I am running a clean install of Adios (based off FC 3 I believe) and I need to use telnet to a UML. I can telnet localhost once I turn off iptables. I have successfully pinged my UML1 IP however when I telnet I get connection refused. Is there anything I should check on my UML that should be enabled to recieve a telnet connection? Any help yould be appeciated!
