Parrot, like Kali, is a system designed for professional penetration testers and not for Linux newbies. I wouldn't use it myself and I've been a Linux user for 20 years!

If you are a complete newbie, then install Ubuntu or Mint. If you have already cut your teeth on those and want something more challenging, install Debian.

Parrot Security OS, like many other security-focused Linux distributions, does not have a default password. This is a deliberate design choice to enhance security. It forces users to set their own passwords during installation, promoting good security practices from the start.

Here's what you typically encounter during Parrot OS installation:

No Default Login: There's no pre-configured username or password for logging in after installation.
User Creation: During installation, you'll be prompted to create a new user and set a strong password.

Orion2024,

I find that Calamares is one of the most user friendly installers around. I have used it on both Parrot (formerly Parrot Security OS) and EndeavourOS.

The installation instructions are very clear:
https://parrotsec.org/docs/installation/

Attached is a screenshot of the user/password creation stage.

Creating a new user account

You will be asked to create a new user, for simplicity we have chosen a user. You can enter any name in here.

Remember that it is the password to access your OS account, we recommend you to create a long and complex one.
It may be much simpler to do a fresh installation and save time.
