Rhel patching

I need to perform patching on some RHEL boxes.
This the first time i am gonna do this. Kindly advise, how and what are the steps i should take to perform the OS patching. thanks!

Euh..."patching"? Did'nt you do a regular update? What RHEL is it? If it's the first time you do this...I suspect them to be some what dated..

Let's see, RHEL, RedHat...yum...try this in the console:

yum update

(I've not used Fedora/RedHat for a while - you mau need to consult the man page)

^He's correct, last time I used a Fedora/Redhat machine yum was still standard, and I doubt they've changed it. Just, as root, do "yum update" and it'll pull updates from Redhat's servers.

If you want to see the available cmds, see http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-2531.
Use up2date for RHEL 4.x, yum for RHEL 5.x

Awesome guys, thanks alot.

I have now a better idea, and also i came to learn that there are specific patch versions for every applications (rpms).
and those are available from RHSA.

thanks again..!! wish human brain has some patching functions too

Yes it has (fairly under-userd, but still) - it's called evolution...and for the less-patiant ones...like us, there is the forum!
