I would love to help write newbie article, since, being a newbie myself, no one is better to help a newbie than a newbie. Which, in its self, sounds incorrect, but actually, if someone can explain it to you in an uncomplicated manner, it is dramticaly easier to understand.

(ok, In life I do NOT sound like that. I sound like some kind of professor or something...)

But, also, I can help with article revisions and gramatical corrections in how-to's, Wiki articles, and the such.

If someone can translate German (or is it Dutch?)to English, SuSE would be so much easier to troubleshoot.

I don't know Linux nearly well enough yet to be of much help in most areas, but in the rare event that someone has a DOS question, i'm an old DOS guru, or at least i know DOS pretty well. Don't laugh; i have actually helped somebody already in the programming forum who had a DOS question, and i haven't noticed anyone else offering this specific talent.

Secondly, i could field some generic C and Assembler logic questions.

Thirdly, i've been employed as a pretty good editor, both as proofreader for grammar and syntax, and as critic of style, cohesiveness, readability, etc. (BTW, i know the lower-case 'i' is non-standard; i nevertheless use it deliberately.)

All this is as i can make time, naturally.

Just to reiterate, if you are interested in writing an article, editorial or tutorial - please use the contact us form and let us know what you are interested in writing. If you are interested in editing or anything of that nature, the LQ Wiki is where we could use the most help in that department I think. You can browse around for a topic of interest or even use the "random article" link and see what pops up. The LQ Wiki is also a fantastic place for those members who are not comfortable writing a whole tutorial. You'd be amazed how much small contributions add up to help.

Some other things that can be done include submitting threads/article/whatever that interest you to sites like digg/newsforge/etc to help spread the word, reviewing your favorite distro, entering your hardware into the HCL, telling as many people as possible about the site, using LQ Bookmarks to help others fine useful Linux related sites, suggesting mirrors/distros at LQ ISO, listening to the LQ Podcast, helping with 0 reply threads and more. As I said before, also feel free to contact me if you think you have a specific skill that I haven't covered.

Hello, My name is Lexen and I think I can help people learn how to use Linux by making instructional videos on basic Linux tasks. I am more or less a Linux newbie, but I am really fired up about it and I do have a descent amount of video experience. I would film myself doing a task, like installing suse Linux 10.0, I would then add commentary for those who don't understand what I am doing, and I would have a step by step text tutorial for those who can read fast and learn better that way. I would then put the video together, convert it into flash so the file would be small enough for most people over the Internet and then we have ourselves a few more linux users.

I know that this type of thing is not what the site has been doing up until now, but I think it would be a change for the better. If anyone else wants to get involved with it then we could work together to make it even better. If anyone would like to contact me my email is lexen1@gmail.com.

I hope that you like the idea, because I know that in the little bit of Linux that I learned, I had a hard time learning it from text. I am a visual learner and if someone went threw the tedious task of showing me every button to press and why, I would have learned faster and better. I really hope that you guys like this idea, because I think we can go somewhere with it.

Well the whole thing is really simple, I will buy a device that hooks up like a monitor, but it also has RCA out. I would then take the RCA out and hook it up to another computer that will record the video. It would not simply show the screen the whole time, it might cut to a shot of me for some commentary every once in a while, but a large part of the time would simply be the screen.

My dad is a certified teacher and has been trained to teach at the standards of "No Child Left Behind" so he could look over the videos and make sure that they would be effective in teaching people.

I think that I would start with very basic tasks and work my way up. I think that the first video I would do would be teaching people how to install Open SUSE 10.0, simply because I have the most experience with suse. I would then probably move on to Mandriva or another popular flavor of linux. Any suggestions?

Any way, in the last entree I asked if anyone wanted to help. I did get one person that emailed me back, but if anyone else wants to help, I would really like any text tutorials that I could read and learn from so that I could better teach people. Also, I would really like it if someone would watch the videos before we release them on the website to make sure that everything I am saying is accurate. I would hate to look foolish, but I really don't want to teach anyone the wrong thing. So, if anyone would like to help with that, it would be great.

If I could wave a magic wand I would have Novell hire you, fly you to their business at 404 Wyman St. Waltham, Ma. 02451 and give you all of the technical assistance you needed to make a bunch of videos. The gap between the Suse Linux 10 disks and us unknowledgeable home users of it potential properties is exceptionally wide.

I can use my system to access the Internet, download updates, and use this great Konqueror web browser. I am content to let the rest of it sit until I can find out what the system consists of before I go and mess things up by venturing into the unknown.

As a matter of fact it would just be wonderful if someone created " how to use " videos of every single Linux distribution that exists. Start a company yourself!! The Need out here is Great !!
