Smile What is Parsix GNU/Linux?

Parsix is a distribution from Iran. I have used parsix an love it. I should say it is a light and efficient distro. It uses kanotix and debian. so a good support of hardware and software.
Just try parsix, you will leave ubuntu . unfortunately it is not as famous as ubuntu .
I tested this thread to encourage you to test this nice distro and make this opportunity to discuss about Parsix in linuxquestions.org.

hope you like it. Please continue to this thread and leave your comments about parsix here.

It hasn't been around as long as Ubuntu, either.

I've read the Distrowatch review... Looks quite promising, indeed.

Cheers

Right..well, based on that "review" it's nothing outstanding. Gnome desktop is found in every "user-friendly" distribution at least as an option (available for Slackware too, though not directly in the setup discs), and apart from the 4 "Parsix-made" utilies in the menu it seems not to distinguish from a basic Debian or Ubuntu clone except for the branding. The only reason I see a Ubuntu user might switch over is for the branding, and that's a kind of odd reason..

It would be nice if they took other things in the review than just the ordinary graphical interface (which is usually either Gnome or KDE, so it isn't really informative at all) and that "most of my hardware worked out of the box". Ok, it has apt and an outdated version of Gnome, but what else?

Good to see new, fresh distributions out there---at times some of them bring something new (good) into this corner of the operating system house---but I'd like to see some really new or working things, not just the "hey nobody has yet done a clone of this popular Linux distribution at Galápagos, so I'll make it" or "I switched Rhythmbox for Banshee and added a self-made CUPS configuration utility (even though there's already a web interface and another graphical tool), then I turned that into a 'new' distribution and it's better than anything". The name and first comments sounded promising, too bad it didn't last for more than two minutes.

Maybe I'll just have to give it a try and see if there's something under the hood that is worth it.

You are right... I missed this part on the first read:

I think if you were looking for an alternative to Ubuntu, then Parsix is a good choice. In fact, that's the feeling I get every time I test Parsix - it's Ubuntu for folks who don't want to use Ubuntu.

Like that makes sense... guess I won't bother, after all.

Cheers

I keep an install of Parsix on hand all the time. It is my favourite gnome distro.

Nice artwork, root user, and a nice set of apps. It also gives me access to my many partitions without jumping through hoops like Ubuntu does with fstab and permissions.

Parsix used to be way ahead in wireless support but lately buntus have caught up.

The installer is excellent.

It is pure Debian too, so software is no problem.
