/var/log/wtmp

What gets logged to wtmp and how would you read it? When I try reading it with vi i get hex entries. And wtmp.1 gives gibberish. Is there a certain program used to view this log?

Login and logout info, use the "last" command to see it.

utmpdump /var/log/wtmp | less ---> To review recent logins. If the login is from a remote location, it will be associated with a specific IP address outside your network.

/usr/lib/acct/fwtmp < /var/adm/wtmp > /tmp/abc.out


You can read the abc.out file (plain english)
