completeing a circut with a computer

hi,
this is an odd question.
i would like linux to complete an electrical circut when i login to my old p1 computer. I would then connect this through a relay so it could complete or disconnect an 18 V circut.

is this possible?
if so, is this possible with a shell script?

also when i logout i would like it to disconnect that circut.

Yes, the simplest method would be to add a relay circuit to the parallel port and then use a c program to turn the relay on / off. Google for parallel port programming circuits.

There is a program called pport that basically does the above for you. Very simple command line prog to use.
