OpenOffice Calc
FORMAT -> Page -> Sheet -> Print Grid
MS Excel
FILE -> Page Setup -> Sheet -> Print Gridlines
OpenOffice is not unfriendly you are too ridgid and stuck on how a single application works on a single platform, many of which put options in strange places. Quite honestly I believe OpenOffice has menu selections in areas that actually make sense as opposed to where MS Office puts them. I mean come on since when does formatting the page belong under the File menu ? Putting it under the Format menu is more intuitive and actually makes sense..
I believe all word processors are pretty similar overall, having used appleworks, MS Write, MS word, AbiWord, WordPerfect (Dos and Windows versions), OpenOffice Write, the list goes on.. On the spreadsheet side I've worked with the original Visicalc on the apple 2, apple works, Lotus 123 (Dos and Windows Versions), MS Works Spreadsheet, Excel, Gnumeric, Open Office Calc. For basic use the applications are all similar to an extent. if you posess the knowledge to use one, you should be able to use any of the others.
I could never understand why people get all wrapped up in a single version of an application on a single OS..
