3d direct render with intel i810

I don't have a question... rather I just figured out something that I have been googling on for quite awhile. I just thought I'd post my solution to help the next guy.

I was trying to get the direct rendering to work with the intel i810 chipset onboard 3d. For the life of me I couldn't get direct rendering enabled... until I read the following http://www.xfree86.org/4.0.1/DRI8.html

There they will tell you how to setup your xfree86 config, and they also mention that for this driver 3d rendering DOES NOT work running in a 32 bit color depth. only 16!

So all I had to do was set my color down to 16 and restart x. No Problems!

Hope this helps

Moved: This thread is more suitable in LQ Member Success Stories and has been moved accordingly to help your thread/question get the exposure it deserves.

Congratulations on resolving this issue.

Given that the post is not a question, but does reflect your success with what often can be a difficult topic, it seems that this thread may be better suited in the Success Stories forum, which is why it's being promoted (or just moved, if you prefer)

Thanks again for posting, giosue_c -- J.W.

thanks

Next time I'll know where to put my non questions. Just a side note, I had another system that had a similar problem. No 3d! It had a voodoo3 card. Someone had told me that voodoo3 3d was no longer supported in linux due to something with modern X servers... but if you look at that link i gave in my first post it turns out that the voodoo3 has the same issue. Flip it to 16 bit mode and suddenly 3d acceleration works. I think they call that "two birds with one stone".
