making a combination date/timestamp in a word processor
If I'm typing a document in a word processor (not a text editor) and want a datestamp (without typing it manually), I may (and usually do) want a timestamp with it. I thought the OpenOffice WP wouldn't do it, but with more digging, I figured out how to. In Insert--->Field, select Other. (There is a Ctrl-F2 key combination listed, but I have not figured out what it does, because when I press it, nothing seems to happen.)
In the "Date (Fixed)" submenu, halfway down the long list of date formats, there are at least two formats for a combination datestamp/timestamp.
I also found that Abiword, which I sometimes try, does it quicker and more simply (which figures, considering how much simpler Abiword is). In the Insert menu, there is a "Date and Time" option immediately available.
I guess this is the closest I can come to one-button datestamps/timestamps unless I learn how to make macros. The reason it interests me in the first place is because I keep journals ( both personal journals and creative writing journals) and expect to log the time and date (preferably both) on each entry.
The ideal, the simplest stamp I've ever seen, was in Windows Notepad. There, you had to only press F5.
