Who are you?
Where are you?
Where is the work?
How long is it for?
On-site or tele-commute?

The lack of significant detail almost makes you look fly-by-night. At least your command of written English is good.

some answers....

Who are you?

> At this time, we shall remain anonymous. That said, the company is an established service provider in the open source field.

Where are you?

> Based out of Los Angeles, CA

Where is the work?

> The work can be done anywhere.

How long is it for?

> We are basically looking to work with a consultant that can assist a few hours a week (not much). At times we run into license issues and don't have the time and resources (internally) to handle the research and provide a response.

On-site or tele-commute?

> Anywhere. Anytime.

It does, indeed, appear to me that you need a lawyer, licensed to work in the State of California. And that nothing else will do.
