mituating in the wind...??? Please explain.

I think the idea of this is to clearly quantify and track those solved. I also think LQ to their credit are aspiring to differentiate between the solved and those who gave up. That way gauging the success rate of LQ.

Micturating is what I think he meant.

The thanks is an easy way to give back to someone who was helpful to you, but yes, it doesn't make a huge difference to the individual answerer if it doesn't happen. On the other hand, if someone comes along with the same issue afterwards, they have an easy way to see which answers were the most useful. or even get a gauge on which posters are consistently helpful.

Hello everyone

Actually I'm very new to the LQ and maby my opinion is useless at this point but of what I've seen so far when you assume a thread / question as resolved is more flexible of pointing this with one click than having in mind of a couple of things to prove that. Ex solved & I found this link helpful but at the end of the day all of you are doing such a good job here and resolve so many things that personally if you ask me for 10 clicks on a solved case (hard one or not) I am willing to do that anyway .

Thanks

Hi -

I definitely believe "Thanks" and "Resolved" are both useful.

I'm glad that "Resolved" is still there, but it's kind of sad that "Thanks" (entirely positive) has been replaced by "Useful/not useful" (which is not always positive, and not often useful )

IMHO .. PSM

I recognize this was asked many moons ago but any progress on this? I've opted out of the rep thing and could live without the 'helpful' thing but, given that it's there, it would be very useful to know what posts were what. Especially since it seems many people use these clicks in lieu of saying anything directly.

Another question on the 'helpful' feature in addition to the post above: am I correct in understanding that the 'Did you find this post helpful? Yes | No' part is disabled for posts that start threads? If so, while it's understandable that a 'Help!'-type post would not be helpful (except to others who have the same problem ), many threads are started to make announcements and many people might like to mark some of them helpful. (I just noticed this with a guy announcing a new bit of software that I don't use myself but could see being very popular and was expecting a '30 out of 30 users found this helpful' or something and there was nothing at all.)
