Discussion on which distro is better should be in General forum

I believe that discussions about what distribution is better, remind of childish talk about who's father is stronger and lead to endless polemics about "transferring the water from bowl to bucket". I think it should have its place only in General forums!

I'd have to agree, a forum dedicated to literally the same question over and over, that would be utterly boring. And we already have a forum to discuss such things, Distributions forum is perfect for such questions, since members will never stop asking such questions.

Should we have one "official" which distro is better thread, where all discussion on the topic would be directed? At least this would make it easy to ignore, for those of you who wish to.

Perhaps they should all be merged into one giant Uberthread, in the vein of the "post a link to your desktop?"

I think what Jeremy is getting at is that if it's just the common "I'm a newbie, which one should I use?" they'll be pointed to the ongoing existing thread and their thread will be closed. If it's more detailed like.. I have such and such hardware, which one would you recommend, it can slightly vary and these are more along the lines of actual questions that can have different answers.

the fact that there are so many of those bl**dy questions proves that people asking those questions are not doing their research. As such having an existing thread or forum would most likely go ignored, as, as we already know, they aren't doing their research before asking.

True but that can be said for about 50% or more of the questions asked..

Forum exists for people to ask for help. Otherwise, forum loses its meaning. This category definitely must be. Separated, however.

nope, no point. it's a whole bunch of work for us, with minimal benefit to the end user. now somethign that has been tossed around a lot in the past is a "distro chooser" questionaire or option tree or something... that might have a role to play, but a thread of "which is best"s will just be a lot of inidivudal isolated questions, which defies the point of a large thread in the first place. if they wanted to read other peoples thoughts, they woudl have.

Yolu know, in the end, most of the time I don't care as I just ignore and move on with these threads. 99% of the time my response is the same to anyone who asks the question, that's if I do respond: "All of them will work, use what you are most comfortable with. Or try them all out to find out which one suits and works best for you."

You see, doesn't it just p**s you off, I mean, this quality time of yours could have been spared if this question had been separated by special category in forum and as moderator you also have more peace of your mind, just knowing that this sort is being taken care of anyway.

"My distro is better than your distro" threads belong in general- they are like microsoft vrs windows threads. perhaps we need a list of what distros and what they are good for... or not. people are lazy.

humph. I dunno, I think we either ignore these threads, ban them (like double posts) or something.
