1) On the topic of specific regional pejoratives: There is a huge grey area here and we try to strike a balance. We don't have a comprehensive list of words that are not allowed, and don't plan to. It's a judgment call and either way we go, some members are going to think we got it wrong (some thinking we went too far, some thinking we didn't go far enough...often times in the same incident). You'd be surprised how difficult this is to balance. We continue to hone and improve where we can.
2) On the topic of Reported Posts. We look at each one, but the answer is almost identical to the above. If you think we got it wrong in a specific case, feel free to reach out to a mod or myself directly. Do keep in mind that we're a small volunteer group trying to balance free speech (which I value highly), the LQ Rules, 100's of cultures, different timezones, myriad opinions, trolls/spammers/bots and much more; all while trying to maintain a platform that is friendly and welcoming to new members while also being sustainable and reasonable for long time regular participants.
Aye, well perhaps we could start by recognising that one member calling other members "tossers" (masturbators) shouldn't be acceptable in a forum that is striving to be welcoming and friendly. Imo, of course.

I'm not sure where the impression that it is or was acceptable is coming from; that member was permanently banned.

Yet the term itself remained in his/her opening post on the thread, despite being flagged, until just a few minutes ago (I checked it was there before making my previous post and again before making this post, only to find that it has now been edited out). That was my point, and the point I made earlier in this thread, that pejorative language was allowed to remain in a post.
However, given that someone has now mod edited the term, all is good. Thank you, and I personally do appreciate how much of a balancing act must be performed. It won't stop me arguing my side of things though. Keep up the good work.
After starting a thread on a forum I admin at. Because I am so spoiled with the spam filters there. I was over whelmed on what procedure was best to fix a spam fest from a russian new member.

It shows a US-centric bias to the modding (but I suppose also lets non-US English-speakers use their local slang with impunity, so that's good for them).
Also, there was no feedback given to me as to why that word had been left in - my comment was just ignored.
Similarly, yesterday I reported a post where a good member here had advised the use of what is generally deemed to be an illegal software built on top of BitTorrent. Well I thought so anyway. Nothing was done, but that wasn't a problem in my eyes, it was the fact that the feedback to me was non-existent, just tumbleweed. So, I didn't know if I was wrong about the illegality, whether any mod in fact saw my report, whether it was just decided to let it go because it wasn't a major thing, whether it was decided to let it go because it was me who reported it, etc. I had absolutely no idea.
That happens a lot on here. If nothing is done following a report, there is no feedback. It really makes you wonder why you bother reporting things. But there you go...
We need to make sure we don't get too carried away, otherwise our posts will be as redacted as an FBI memo. What next, shall we have a thread called "Words to ban", shall this list include curse words in Spanish, German, Mandarin, Swahili etc...?

and with all of that, LQ is still the best forum I've found online, hands down...including one that I run...LOL.

Did I suggest that - no.
What I did point out was that a particular term was pejorative in UK English slang, particularly in the context in which it was used.
If you want to stretch the point to the extreme, feel free. It's a shame though, as it's a pretty puerile argumentative technique and not how I see you as a poster.

@cynwulf, you're intentionally being antagonistic with the previous post, which is no way constructive and does not add to the conversation. You've been a member long enough to know better.
I disagree. I antagonised no one. You haven't edited multiple incidents of "tosser" from the several posts in this thread. "This particular tosser" = me... so what is this about exactly and why is only my post edited?
