Hey Bic, one thing I noticed is when I was doing those "cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg" commands, I did not think they where working, but they were, because they would record a clip and saving it to my home as a file recording.
I am still not getting any sound. be sure to read above posts and tell me if you see anything...
Mythdora is a Linux Distribution based on Fedora Core 10. It has all the MythTV software and hardware drivers - video, remote, ir and plugins built in. A lot easier than wilsonet.com, which involved installing FC first then all the drivers etc..
Bic I did another reinstall because I installed Mythdora 4.0 and it failed to detect my card and it failed to see windows for dual boot, so I switched back to Mandriva.
Do you recall the command script for that cx18-firmware file...?
I just dragged them over using kdesu konqueror.

I came back and wrote edit that I got the files there by dragging them to their location and now it works. (I guess my point did not come across)
I still have an issue with sound. The closest I got was, I did not install alsamixer to see if that would make a difference, and If I turned my speakers up to full sound, I could hear the sound, but it was a very faint whispering sound, barely even detectable.
So, I installed alsamixer, and alsamixer allows one to boost the sound even further, and now I do not hear a thing.
So I am stumped as to how to configure my sound....
If you have any ideas, please let me know.
The only way I can view TV picture is by using either Mplayer or Xine's Mplayer.
I downloaded VLC Mediaplayer and I cannot figure out how to configure...
How do I get it installed...? Are these the sound drivers you are speaking of? What command line should do I run...?

On the card set-up with Myth, I could not setup Mpeg2 configuration and it said failed to detect video0 card or something to that effect.
The only way I could navigate through the card configuration was to use the up and down arrow on my keyboard.
I did not have the ability to use mouse cursor to go to each box to enter card name.
All that was visable was something that said analog tuner and I had no other choices.
I tried to hit next and nothing happened, I hit back or previous if I recall correctly and nothing happened.
In the end I had to do a soft boot.
I noticed the particians in myth are different than mandriva's.
Nonetheless, I decided to go back and do a reinstall (of Mandriva) and not configure alsa to see if I would get sound that way via Mplayer of xine Mplayer.

This package contains the setup software for configuring the mythtv backend.
and
mythtv-frontend - Client component of mythtv (a PVR)
MythTV provides a unified graphical interface for recording and viewing television programs.
This package contains only the client software, which provides a front-end for playback and configuration. It requires access to a mythtv-backend installation, either on the same system or one reachable via the network.
I am not sure what frontend and backend mean or if either of these packages can or will work.

backend is where all the recordings and other tasks take place. frontend is for viewing. Most people will be combined frontend and backend. www.mythtv.org click on documentation for more information. wiki.mythtv.org is also good.

Mandriva
NOTE: The following instructions should be considered out of date as of 2006-09-10. If updated instructions are not submitted by the release of v0.21 of MythTV they will be removed.
urpmi is the simplest tool for installation of packages from the command line, but properly configuring it can be difficult. The following website http://easyurpmi.zarb.org/ will allow you to choose a mirror site and then present the command-line configuration text for that mirror. You will most likely need to add a "Contrib" mirror to your setup. If you add a site from the "Penguin Liberation Front", you will be able to load the lame library without compiling from source.
Open a shell, and execute the following. You may get asked a number of questions regarding dependencies. It's best to answer "YES".
$ su
