I can't seem to get k3b to recognise any media. I'm trying to burn an iso to a cdr and it just says 'no media found'. I've tried a cdrw as well. It might be a fault with my dvd burner but it's worked ok in the past. Not sure what to do about it.
Sometimes the physical blank media is bad or k3b doesn't like it. Using a GNOME application (gnomebaker or something) might work. Or try another brand of CD-R
It doesn't seem to work on any cd media. Only dvd. It won't recognise any disk, such as cdr, cdrw, or if copying a music cd. Message 'no media found'. DVD's are fine. I suppose it might have got corrupted somehow. As I said it has worked fine in the past. It is a bit odd.
Thanks for getting back.
I am using KDE.
Edit:
Just to add that it hasn't got anything to do with k3b. What happens is I get a strange clicking noise when I put the disk in.
I presume you have a CD ROM and a DVD player on your machine. Is the correct ROM player selected inside K3B?

I am having the exact same problem on a FreeBSD box running K3B, so I doubt the problem is with your hardware. It worked fine for a long time, then after a portupgrade it stopped recognizing CD media (even the same media I had previously burned with), but still burns DVD just fine. I assume it's a bug in some library I updated, but have not yet figured out which - will let you know if I do.
It's the same with xcdroast. I did upgrade my kernel which didn't work and so I went back to the 2.4. I don't know what can mess it up. I haven't upgraded the firmware or anything, mainly because the official ones are only for windows and I don't want to invalidate the warranty just yet.
I'm still having the same problem here. I've tried with different distros (mandrake and slackware) and I still get a clicking sound with the burner for any cd. It occurred to me that this started when I swapped to a different brand of cd. A very cheap Tesco cdr. Now it won't work at all. Is it possible that this cdr has knackered my drive? And if so is there anything I can do about it? I know nec or whoever have lists of recommended media.
well strangely enough, it ended up being a bad drive for me.... i discovered this by accident when i tried to reformat the box - i couldn't boot from the burner... i swapped it out and it booted fine from the new drive, so rather than reformat i just rebooted and tried it out - sure enough it works like a champ...
so, for some reason, the old drive just lost its ability to burn and boot from cd's (even though it could still read them and burn/boot dvd's).... pretty bizarre...
