question opjose. will it take care of all the dependencies.....I tried to do that win the CE edition on 10.1 and it just was nhot working dude.....i could edit the menu for example I had lots of wierd problems man....

Re: Fix the dependancies that is what URPMI is supposed to do. At worst it will complain voiciferously if anything is missing.

If you get weird behaviour it may be because you have older configuration files from 3.2 laying around.

Try creating a NEW user and see if the new user has problems with 3.3.

If not, you can delete all (carefull with this as it will also delete things like Bookmarks, etc...) from ~/.kde/* to get rid of the old config files and create new ones.

Thanks man for the help. retracing my steps I started upgrading since version 9.1 so there could have been so unwanted baggage down the road that could have broken the thing. Also I upgraded from 10.0 official to 10.1 ce and then I tried to do the kde upgrade....

back at that time I also tried that (creating a differet user, etc.) and that did not work....I'll try it again in a couple of minutes to see what happens....

Logged int as root in the console, when to the 4th /mnt/cdrom/media/kde3.3 issued urpmi * and it is telling me the no media files found....

Do they actually exist?

I was looking in the wrong folder myself...

Anyway you urpmi should work.

Try

urpmi *.rpm

or

urpmi *rpm

urpmi ./*rpm

etc. until it takes off.

my 4th disc has that directory full of kde 3.3 stuff amigo.......let me see if I can add it as an extra repository instead of going command line....

You can also use the software media manager to explicitly add these in.

I get the follwing error though:

I think it was an issue with the relative path to the hd list......now it has been added.... wish me luck.....

Yeah that indicates that Linux was not capable of downloading the hdlist.cz files off the cdrom, even though the script found them.

e.g. a disk read error.

You can try copying all of the contents of the KDE directory to one on your hard disk and add it locally, both to test the CD reads and also so that you can isolate the RPM's from the hdlist.cz files if needed.

If you still can't install from the hard disk then you can delete these .cz files and manually (or with the Software Media Manager) add the rpm location for KDE3.3 from the HDD.

the SMM (actually URPMI's urpmi.addmedia with a gui) will rebuild the hdlist.cz file by reading the contents of each RPM.

This also verifies their contents as being readable.

It was jsut the location opjose... I manage to add that direcotry on the 4th Cd as a source....I'm right now updating to kde 3.3....

INSTALLATION FINISHED.......goign to restart the machine completely to see what happens....

DAMN......same issue with the menu.......if I right clik on the mdk start and select menud editor, it starts loading the icons and then it stops....if I run menudrake from the console I get a segmentation fault.....DAMN!!!

also cliking on th emkd start still shows KDE 3.2 download......

Unfortunately this may be a holdover from the prior 10.0 (and before if any) installs.

it appears this is a common issue.....there seems to be a compatibility problem with kde 3.3 and menudrake. Google for it (menudrake segmentation fault). Now, if I switch my menu style to kde...no problem.....

now if I could just change the damn KDE 3.2 download sidebar everytime I open the mdk menu...
