How to implement a SMTP server for outgoing mail?

Hi, Does anybody here know how to program under C with sockets a SMTP for outgoing mail? I would want to know how does a SMTP server works (no a SMTP client). If somebody knows any document about it, please tell me.

You may want to refer to the RFC (Request For Comments) document for the SMTP standard.

I think you want RFC 821 although there may be a more recent version or extensions to look out for.
