That is really nice. Question: how did you install bpytop? I tried using this sequence:
git clone https://github.com/aristocratos/bpytop.git
cd bpytop
sudo make install
And it installed but would not run. Do you have Slackware 14.2 or the newer one?

I'm using -current and installed bpytop using python pip3
Installing from pip fetches some dependencies, i think you are missing those perhaps.

Just sharing my config for my previous Conky: https://github.com/xexpanderx/conky-dashboard. Expect modifications from your side though, since this is adapted for my system. Let me know if you need any help.

Happy new year!

I've shared my utilitarian fvwm-based desktop here from time to time, and still use it, though I worry sometimes about Wayland pushing out Xorg and forcing me to switch to another WM.

Recently I found there's an fvwm v3 in the works. The goals of the project are modest, but include support for Wayland:

https://github.com/fvwmorg/fvwm3/blo...v-docs/TODO.md

If that pans out, it's quite possible that fvwm will remain a viable choice for a few more decades. I find some comfort in the prospect.

In your dropdown menu there's an item labeled Wallpaper and I see the same icon accessible from your pager module (third box down from the top). Just wondering how you're addressing that (setting specific wallpapers) issue in .fvwm2rc? I have it simply opening a folder of collected wallpaper images, then select them with "feh" and use that to set the wallpaper. Is there a more specific fvwm-related command to accomplish this?

Cheers

Thank you very much.

@Cabbie001 :

It's the same Icon but they do different things. Since I switch between window managers, I end up handling backgrounds outside of them. For instance, since I use feh as a background setter most of the time, I know that I can simply have whatever WM I am using simply call .fehbg on startup to get the last-set background. .fehbg is the script that is (re)written every time one sets a background using feh.

Anyway, the menu item with that icon remains unchanged but since it looks like it may be a hard-coded list of three backgrounds, I don't use it. The Icon in my side-bar calls a program (not feh) that generates the gray grid background which you see in the screen shot. Right-clicking on the icon instead calls .fehbg, to restore whatever background feh had been last used for.

The nine little squares Icon looks more like a file manager to me, than XDG, so clicking it runs Rox Filer and right-clicking on it launches the Worker file manager (which you see running in just about all of my screen shots).

The wrench runs leafpad with the fvwm config in it, so I can edit it.

The blue swirly currently does nothing, it's a place holder until I decide what I want it to do.

The larger cartoon monkey button is a placeholder: I've been trying to get a dockapp to run in there and have not yet gotten it to work.

I've only been running fvwm a few days so I'm still figuring things out.

You've figured out a lot in just a few days.
I actually didn't know about the existence of .fehbg. Thanks for that, it should be useful.
Nice touch that you've added dual options for your icons for left-vs-right click.
I use thunar file manager by default, but have just checked out Rox-filer (via SlackBuild), and must admit it's quite good.
The icons you're using seem perfect for your setup (B&W theme), but if you want an alternative to the nine-squares thing,
since you have Adwaita installed you could opt to use /usr/share/icons/Adwaita/32x32/apps/preferences-desktop-wallpaper.png.
Keep Rox-fil'in in the free world...

That's a great looking Desktop, frushiyama. I'm particularly interested in your minimalist but useful metering. Is that Conky? If so, or whatever it is, are you willing to share some more info on what and how that's accomplished? very nice.

That metering is a widget from KDE5, it is called "Visualizador de carga do sistema 0.8" in brazilian portuguese, maybe "System load viewer" in english with the grahics setled to circular and no background color. It ships with KDE5 by default.

Right, it's a 30k file so it should fit here.

Note: high probability that just dropping this in to replace your .fvwm/config is a bad idea and will break everything. Several external things (scripts, programs, pictures) are unique to my system and also keep in mind that I've only been using fvwm a few days so the way I am doing some things could be non-optimal.

edit: hmm: too big to put in a code block. Replies have a 30k limit, it seems. Let's try an attachment as a text file: ah, that seems to work.

Hopefully that gives you ideas when editing/making your own config.

The man pages for fvwm are rather thorough and there are several of them.

Thx for that
Good enough for inspiration
