All these critiques I give you are from an esthetic view and my personal taste:

First, I would skip icons on desktop, especially unsorted ones. If you need those icons you have on your desktop you can put them for example in the cairo-dock or what-ever panel you prefer, this contribute to a cleaner and more organized desktop.

Secondly, your conky covers the "Fear Utopia" icon, maybe you want to put the conky on the bottom right side instead and shrink the dimensions of the conky a bit to not cover the panels on the right side. This way, the Fear Utopia icon become more visible contributing to a nicer look.

Thirdly, I am not sure about the color combination of your GTK theme, but this is very personal. However, maybe you can change the color of the "white" to grey or use the same base-pixmap (the background on where you see the File manager icons). You could also use that same pixmap as background on your terminal.

One of the key to make a good screenshot is to use color combinations that fit the wallpaper, because the wallpaper is the first thing that catch your eyes. So the color combination for the GTK theme for example should be found on your wallpaper (or maybe just fit), i.e. the GTK theme should adapt with your wallpaper. There are two good links for this, that gives the color palette for a specific walllpaper:

I really like the background pixmap of your Xfce-panel, it looks really nice, however the yellow part seems to not fit. Perhaps you can change the yellow shades onto more dark colors, maybe dark-blue (which you can find on the sides of your "Fear Utopia" icon). Using that yellow color contributes to too much contrast between your colors, this is also another key, do not use too much contrast between the colors.

Other than that, keep working on your themes and you will be better and better, and I hope some of my critiques help you a little. Or maybe not, this is all from my personal taste and not something considered as a global rule .

hey eXpander, thanks for making that deviantart group! It's nice to finally have a centralized place for us to stick all our screenshots. I went through this thread and grabbed all of mine and submitted them, you should have a bunch of new screenshots now!

I am still trying to work out how to change that icon.

Desktop features hybrid, gnome 2.30 + xfce 4.8 + kwin
Gnome session, gnome-panel (at the top) no nautilus; xfdesktop, xfce4-panel (at the bottom). theme = modified 'overglossed'. I use kwin because i like hot corners, and i've had noting but issues with compiz in the past.
