P2V options??


anyone ever do P2V for Solaris8/9/10 (sparc) using PLateSpin or other tool and the virtual works in VMware or VirtualBox? my client has some Solaris crud on various Sun hardware systems and have not been patched in a long time. question came up, how to restore the system if the hardware fails after a reboot or a patch cluster blows things up?

i though of
1. P2V
2. image the system
3. break disc mirror and patch the boot side of the mirror

any suggestions? P2V would be ideal.

VMWare, VirtualBox and PlateSpin are x86 targeted products unsuitable for the SPARC platform.

Solaris 8, 9 and 10 servers can easily be P2V'd to Solaris 10 branded or native zones:
