terminal for netra t1

Hi,

I recently got 2 Sun netra t1 105 servers and I am having some difficulty getting them working. They are headless servers and I can't (don'know how to?) get a serial connection working. They have 2 RJ45 serial ports and I have some RJ45/DB25 and RJ45/DB9 adapters. Can anyone tell me how to get a terminal connection running from a windows/dos box (linux box is down at the moment).

Thanks
Isaac

Use HyperTerminal in Windows or minicom in Linux. Set your BAUD rate down to 9600. And make sure that you're using the serial port and not of of the othe lookalikes. Also depending on your RJ/DB adaptors, you might want to try a crossover cable.

This link will provide you with the documentation on administering your Sun harware. You'll also find that it's a roll over cable that you need to connect to the serial port, the simplest way to make one is to take a standard ethernet cable cut one end off flip the new jack plug over and recrimp. Pin 1 to pin 8 if you know what I mean!!
