Wow!

Ember1205 you cracked it!

In the bios, I changed the SATA from RAID to Legacy

Everything looks ok.

I can mount the drive and with Dolphin, I can read a data disk.

Now I can explore the other CD and DVD function at my leisure

I'll mark this thread SOLVED but reserve the right to ask other daft DVD/CD questions in another thread.

Glad you got it working.

The dmesg output was key for me as I was able to search around based on the ACTUAL drive that was identified during the probing. Found some other issues with that as the resolution.

Fantastic. Onward and upwards. I have Samba problems which I'm pursuing elsewhere. Hope to concentrate on that now.
